Bowl Feeder + Pusher + Elevator: How to Build a Complete Feeding Unit

A complete feeding unit combines bowl feeder orientation, pusher takt transfer and belt elevator height transition. Division of labour, two typical combinations and takt synchronisation.
Many feeding problems are not caused by one weak machine but by poor division of labour between machines. A complete feeding unit usually consists of a vibratory bowl feeder, a pusher feeder and a belt elevator, each covering one stage.
1. Who does what
The bowl feeder handles "from bulk to order": orienting loose parts into a queue — the start of the whole chain. The pusher feeder handles "transfer by takt": pushing queued rows of parts to the machining or assembly position, with adjustable stroke and force and precise rhythm. The belt elevator handles "height difference": lifting low-level supply to a raised station, or returning parts from the end of the line to the hopper for recirculation. Together they cover bulk feeding, takt transfer and height transition.
2. Two typical combinations
Two combinations appear most often: "bowl feeder → pusher → machining position", suited to flat layouts without height difference, where the pusher feeds rows of parts into the fixture at takt; and "hopper → belt elevator → bowl feeder → machining position", suited to cases where the bowl sits higher than the hopper supply surface — the elevator replenishes continuously while the bowl focuses on orientation. The right combination depends on the workshop layout and the downstream picking method; there is no standard answer.
3. The key to linkage: takt alignment
Whether a combined unit runs smoothly depends on takt alignment: the bowl's discharge frequency should sit slightly above the pusher's pushing frequency, and the pushing rhythm should interlock with the downstream station. Electrically, PLC and I/O linkage with empty detection and full-stop logic achieves unattended operation. Any stage running fast piles up; running slow starves the line — aligning these rhythms is the main work of commissioning.
4. Three things to plan first
First, level monitoring — the refill cycle decides whether automatic replenishment is needed; second, buffer capacity — the transition chutes between stages decide how long the line can ride out a short stop; third, expansion interfaces — leave connection points for later inspection, rejection or a second machining position.
Send us your part samples and line layout drawing: we design the bowl feeder, pusher and elevator combination for your actual conditions, verify the takt with a sample trial run, then quote the complete unit.
